MISLA, or Made In South LA, was originally started in 2014 in South Central Los Angeles by a team of tech & business savvy South LA residents. In a part of town known as “Murderer’s Alley”, MISLA set out to reinvent and redefine the very infrastructure of South LA, hoping to one day be known as “Tech Alley”. MISLA believes that comprehensive training in web design, software programming and other forms of digital literacy are essential to the survival of our community and the most competent way of solving the diversity in tech deficit.
At MISLA’s Tech Turn Up, underrepresented minorities & low-income individuals from S. LA learn to “Code like a Boss”! Students will put their skills to the test via our “Turn Up” Battles and Challenges. Aspiring coders will receive on the job training. Students will help to increase economic development in the South Los angeles area by creating websites, software programs and other forms of digital expansion for local community businesses at very low cost. At MISLA, we believe in “Each One Teach One”. The Tech Turn Up is free to underrepresented minorites. Upon graduation, our software engineers will give back 13% of their salaries for 1 year in order to help pave the way for the next Cohort.
